Commerce Minister Muhammad Faruq Khan said that the government is pledge-bound to ensure proper working atmosphere in garment sector where both business and morality would get priority. The government is making relentless efforts to maintain complete working atmosphere in all garment factories in the country, he said.
The commerce minister was presiding over a roundtable discussion on 'Social Compliance for RMG' at Sheraton Hotel in the city on Wednesday. Business Social Compliance Initiative (USCI) of European Trade Association organised the meeting, said an official release. The minister said the government is working to ensure the rights of owners, workers and the traders in garment sector. The existing problems in the sector would be solved, if all play responsible roles from their respective positions, he added.
Conducted by eminent journalist and columnist Abed Khan, the meeting was also addressed by Sarah Begum Kabori, MP, Jatiya Sramik League General Secretary Roy Ramesh Chandra, Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Salam Murshidi, Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra General Secretary Dr Wazedul Islam Khan, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Director Dr M Abdul Mayeen and BSCI representative Bohn Maren.
