War crime trial delayed to ensure int'l standard: Quamrul

State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam today said holding trial of the war criminals is running into delay for making the proceedings international standard and fair. The minister further said the government want to hold the trial of listed war criminals, not of any particular party, private television channel ATN Bangla reports.

He was talking to reporters after a round-table meeting of Alem Freedom fighters’ Generation held at the National Press Club. “We, the government, want to hold this trial in a fair manner. We don't want to hold the trial hurriedly so that no question could be raised”, Quamrul said

But general secretary of Sector Commanders Forum (SCF) Lt Gen (retd) Harun-ur Rashid, who also attended the meeting, urged the government to start proceedings of the trials from the victory day, December 16 this year. He said there are many obstacles in holding the trial of the war criminals. "Despite these, we urge the government to begin the proceedings as soon as possible” Harun added.
