New pay scale in a month

Finance Minister AMA Muhith today said it would take one more month to announce the new pay scale for the government officials and employees. “It would be announced after accommodating recommendations for new pay scale of few separate organisations like Judiciary,” he told reporters, in response to a question at a press briefing at the NEC conference room.

Muhith said the announcement has been delayed, as the new proposals need to be sorted out further. “Whenever we announce the pay scale, it would be effective from July 1 in accordance with the budget.” Replying to another query, he said it would not be possible to send the new pay scale for decision in the next Cabinet meeting, as the minister and finance secretary were outside the country for a long time to attend the World Bank/IMF annual meetings and Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ meeting.

The finance minister and the delegation members returned home from the meetings on Friday (Oct 9). Muhith said amendment to few other laws relating to the civil servants is in the offing, which would also provide some incentives to the government officials. “The civil servants will feel more secure and confident after the amendments to the laws,” he said.
