6 docs indicted in actor Manna death case

A Dhaka court today framed charges against six physicians of United Hospital Limited who were responsible for their negligence in treatment causing the death of popular film actor SM Aslam Talukder Manna on February 17 last year.

Judge Firoz Alam of the Special Judge's Court-1 rejected the discharge petitions by the physicians and framed the charges against them. The court also fixed November 1 for starting trial of the case. The accused physicians are Zahiruddin Mahmud Elias, Mohammad Enayet Hossain, Momenuzzaman, Khandaker Mahbub Hussain, Fathima and Maimul Islam Majumder.

Manna's brother-in-law Reza Kader filed the case with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka against the doctors and members of the board of directors on September 17 last year. The complainant said Manna was admitted to the hospital with chest pain around 4:15am and died at 2:00pm. He alleged that Manna was in the hospital without treatment for over five hours.
