IAB demands withdrawal of edn policy

Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangaldesh (IAB) and Pirsaheb Charmonai Mufti Syed Rezaul Karim said that if the proposed education policy was implemented, the religious education would be abolished from the country and as a result the Holy Quran would be kept in the museum for displaying and the mosques and madrasas will be turned into tourism centres.

Demanding cancellation of the education policy, he called upon the government to form a new committee with eminent educationists and Islamic personalities of the country to form a new education policy. He was addressing as chief guest a demonstration organised by IAB at Muktangan in the city yesterday demanding cancellation of the proposed 'National Education Policy 2009'.

IAB Dhaka city unit president Prof ATM Hemayet Uddin presided over the programme while it was addressed, among others, by its presidium member Moulana Syed Mosaddek Billah Almadani, general secretary Moulana Yunus Ahmed, IAB central leaders Prof Mahbubur Rahman, Prof Syed Belayet Hossain, Mohammad Altaf Hossain, Shahidul Islam Kabir, Md Fazlul Haque Mridha and Moulana ABM Zakaria.

The speakers said that the proposed education policy was explicit violation of the country's Constitution and contrary to public opinion. It would lead the new generation of the county to wrong path, they added. Mentioning that the people of the country had sacrificed for mother tongue, they would also sacrifice for annulling the controversial education policy. On the other hand, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Majlis organised a meeting at Muktangan in the city demanding cancellation of the education policy. Presided over by Mohammad Rezwan Hasan, the programme was attended, among others, by president of the organisation Md Mahzujur Rahman, its general secretary Saleh Ahmed, Harunur Rashid and Easin Arafat.
