Speaker Abdul Hamid today informed the Parliament that a discussion on the all-party parliamentary probe report would be held in the House on time. “It [probe report] has become a property of the House and a discussion on it will be held on due time,” the speaker said replying to a lawmaker’s demand for holding the discussion.
Taking floor on point of order, Jatiya Party lawmaker Mujib-ul-Haque Chunnu, who was also a member of the all-party probe body to investigate grafts occurred in the parliament secretariat in last seven years, said the committee has already placed its report in parliament. “You [speaker] in last session assured that the discussion will be held in the third session. But the issue was not included in the today’s order of the day,” Mujibul said.
The House body that investigated irregularities during the tenure of former speaker Jamiruddin Sircar placed the probe report on July 9 in parliament. It asked the House to strip Sircar of his MP status and recover around Tk 2.50 crore he, his deputy and the then chief whip took illegally as medical bills, additional fuel allowances and other facilities. It also recommended taking legal actions against Sircar, the then deputy speaker Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui and the then chief whip Khandaker Delwar Hossain.
