Arrest warrant issued against SQ Chy

A Tangail court today issued an arrest warrant against BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury in a defamation case. Judge Mohammad Waez-al-Kuruni of Judicial Magistrate's Court issued the arrest warrant, reports our Tangail correspondent.

Earlier on August 19, Advocate Abdur Rahim, senior vice-president of Tangail district Jubo League, filed the Tk 20 crore defamation suit with the same court accusing SQ Chowdhury of making derogatory remarks about the National Mourning Day and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. In the case statement, the plaintiff said SQ Chowdhury does not acknowledge the presence of Bangladesh. He has been creating chaos by making comments against the independence and sovereignty of the country.

The BNP leader has also been delivering nuisance speeches against the present elected government in different national print and electronic media, which hurt the plaintiff as an admirer and follower of Bangabandhu, said the statement. Advocates Shamimul Akter and Shahanshah Siddiqui Mintu filed the case on behalf of the plaintiff. After taking the case in cognisance, the court on August 19 directed the Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) for investigating the case and submitting a report within today.
