Bribe is pre-condition for plot, according to sufferers: Rajuk yet to hand over plots even after 20 yrs of allotment

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) has been dilly dallying in handing over plots to a good number of people who got allotment in Uttara Model Town over two decades ago. Rajuk requisitioned ancestral lands of a large number of inhabitants of the area as far as back in 1986/87 with the promise that sufferers will be allotted plots in the model town for building houses.

Rajuk started the process of allotting plots in the model town in 1991.Most of the sufferers, who lost their ancestral lands, were deprived of plots. Again some of the people who got letters of allotment are yet to get plot in the model town. Rajuk has been dragging on its feet to hand over plots to the sufferers on various flimsy pleas.

Md. Mohiuddin Khan is one of the sufferers who is yet get plot despite receiving allotment letter in 1991. Mohiuddin said after prolonged negotiation with Rajuk he was finally allotted at plot at sector 14 of Uttara Model Town. His allotment of plot at sector 14 was later cancelled following objection from the civil aviation authority. Afterwards, he was allotted a plot at sector 9 of that model town. But Rajuk has not been handing over the plot to him even after mutation, Mohiuddin alleged. He complained that Rajuk is not handing over the plot to him as he declined to comply with their demand for hefty bribe.

Mohiuddin's file for the plot was placed before board meeting of Rajuk thrice, but no final decision on his plot has been taken as yet for mysterious reasons. The same is the case of Md. Zakir Hossain Khan. His plot is also in sector 9.Though 20 years have passed since allotment of plot, Rajuk has not yet handed over the plot to him. Both Mohiuddin and Zakir filed cases separately with the lower court to get their allotted plots. The court issued injunction not to allot these two plots to others. Allegation have its some people of Rajuk have been trying from behind the scene to allot the two plots to some other people in exchange for staggering amount of bribe. When contacted a few days ago, Nurul Huda, Chairman of Rajuk, said "It is the responsibility of policy making body to take a decision on the matter".
