Postal services will be modernised to provide people with various facilities across the country, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Razu told the Parliament today. He said his ministry has already started process to appoint 2,850 manpower for the vacant posts of the post offices.
Replying to lawmakers’ queries, the minister said touch and pay system will be introduced at the post offices so that people can pay their utility services bills from there. Besides, communication information system will be introduced at the offices to provide information to the people, he said. This sector has been neglected for decades, the minister said adding, "But now the present government wants to make the communication network strengthened to serve people."
On new recruitment of manpower, Razu said the establishment ministry has given clearance to fill-up vacant posts at the post offices across the country and process has already begun in this purpose. The cabinet has approved proposals to amend the Post Office Act 1898 and it will be placed in Parliament soon, he said.
