Dhaka, Saturday, February 6, 2010 - 2:55am The police on Friday denied allegations that Dhaka University student Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddique was killed by a teargas shell fired during a factional clash of the Awami League-backed Chhatra League on Tuesday night.
Rather the commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, AKM Shahidul Haque, claimed that a piece of brick thrown by rival groups might have hit the head of Abu Bakar, an apolitical non-combatant, during the clash in Sir AF Rahman Hall, causing his death.
‘Friends of Abu Bakar claimed that he had been shot but the post-mortem report showed he was hit by something blunt. The report also mentioned no sign of bullet injuries,’ he told newsmen on Friday morning. He claimed that there was no possibility of any student being killed by a teargas shell. ‘It is absurd that someone would die of injuries from a teargas shell since the solid part of it remains inside the gas gun and only the soft portion is ejected,’ he added. ‘When the police fire teargas shells, the soft portion spreads across the area and its main objective is to disperse the mob, not to kill anybody.’
Defending the police, he said, ‘Earlier, the hard portion of teargas shells, made by Russia, were also ejected, but the police now use another sort of shell in which the hard portion remains inside gas gun.’ The third year student of the Dhaka University’s Department of Islamic History and Culture, Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddique, died on Wednesday, 30 hours after being allegedly wounded in the head by a teargas shell fired by the police to stop the gunfight.

All foreigner are not same, the Indians are foreigner but if they were given job of VC, they will make their own cader.
Our universities need foreign VCs
Our tachers are divided politically, so political appointees are unable to get support of the opposition groups.
Sudents have no respects for political appointees too.
Our VCs have no research backgrounds; acdemically, we need scholars.
Our VCs do not love the students.
Our important universities can be reorganized by appointing foreign scholars as VCs. They will unite the teacers, will organize reasearch; they will be able to bring the students to class rooms. Cadres will give up slowly.
Who to believe? And what it will give?
Lets say, Bakar died by being injured by teargas shell, what will happen?
Lets say, he was killed by a brick thrown by BCL cadres, what will happen?
Noting!
Will police officer tell the truth? No. Probably, the officer was a DU student; DU produces mostly garbage.
One thing is clear that we do not want BCL, JCD, ICS etc. in our campuses.
Someone from DU meet some honest teacers, raise fund for Bakar's family; Tk 300000 can be raised by taking Tk 10 from each student, help the family to start sometning to get out of poverty.
