CJ accorded farewell

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Supreme Court Bar Association President advocate AFM Mesbahuddin accorded farewell to Chief Justice Md Tafazzul Islam who is going into retirement on Sunday.

In their welfare speeches, the attorney general and the SCBA president highlighted the glorious works of Justice Tafazzul at the chief justice’s courtroom in the morning. The judges of both the High Court and the Appellate Divisions and the lawyers of the apex court were present on the occasion.

The attorney general said Justice Tafazzul Islam had presided over two benches of the Appellate Division for hearing the Bangabandhu murder case and the case regarding the fifth amendment to the Constitution and the cases will be considered as a milestone in the history of the law. Justice Tafazzul Islam was sworn in as chief justice on December 23 last year.

President Zillur Rahman on Thursday appointed Justice Karim, the senior-most judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, the next chief justice as per the article 95(1) of the Constitution. He will take oath on Monday as the 18th chief justice of the country.
