6 Bangladeshis safe in Haiti

The six officials of Bangladesh Police working at the UN peacekeeping mission in Haitian capital Port-au-Prince are safe, a senior police officer said on Thursday. Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP-Media) Nazrul Islam told The Daily Star that the officials, who could not be contacted after Wednesday's earthquake, sent e-mails to the Police headquarters informing that they were unhurt.

The six policemen, including two traffic officials, were working for the peacekeeping mission in Haiti but none of them was posted to the headquarters or anywhere in Port-au-Prince. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake jolted Haiti on Wednesday and the death toll could reach into the tens of thousands, international media reports.
