Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda has expressed the hope that an elected government will run the administration from the beginning of next year.
“The nation has entrusted me to hold the national election. I shall do my best for holding the polls before December as per the roadmap announced earlier.”
“You will see the country is administered by a democratically elected government from January 2009,” the CEC told the meeting of a cross section of people at Nagarkanda upazila auditorium on Friday.
He urged the political parties to prepare for the polls and start selecting honest and qualified candidates for contesting the national elections.
On acute power crisis prevailing across the country, the CEC said the government has taken up a programme to generate 1400MW electricity, which will be implemented within next nine months.
He blamed the previous governments for resorting to corruption and dishonest deals in power sector. That resulted in the present crisis and sufferings to the people.
The CEC visited his home at Baro Kajli village where he offered juma prayers before leaving for Dhaka.
Earlier, he inaugurated voter registration at Nagarkanda.
