AL victory is ‘victory of spirit of Liberation War’: AL

The post-election press conference of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the Jatiya Press Club was abruptly postponed for unspecified reason.

The fresh timing of the press conference will be announced later on, said AL Chief's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad yesterday. However, the press conference may be held at a suitable time today, he added.

Hasina was scheduled to give her party's reaction about Wednesday's election result at the VIP Lounge of the National Press Club in the capital at 4pm on the day.

New voters cast votes in hope of real changes

Over 80 per cent of about 1.70 crore first-time voters Monday exercised their franchise amid huge enthusiasm with a high hope of real change in the country. The turnout of the new voters, both girls and boys, in every polling centre of the city was remarkable and their presence, poll observers said, would be well above 80 per cent.

গতকাল সোমবার নবম জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে আওয়ামী লীগের নেতৃত্বাধীন মহাজোটের এক অভাবনীয় মহাবিজয় ঘটেছে। রাজধানী ঢাকাসহ প্রায় সব জেলায়ই মহাজোটের প্রার্থীদের জয়জয়কার হয়েছে। আওয়ামী লীগ তাদের প্রতিক্রিয়ায় এই অভূতপূর্ব বিজয়কে জোট সরকারের ‘দুর্নীতি ও লুণ্ঠনের’ বিরুদ্ধে এবং দিন বদলের পক্ষে জনগণের নীরব ভোট বিপ্লব হিসাবে বর্ণনা করেছে।

চারজনকে খুঁজছে বিএনপির ক্ষুব্ধ নেতাকর্মীরা

যুগান্তর রিপোর্ট: নবম জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে বিভিন্ন আসনে ভরাডুবির খবরে চরম ক্ষুব্ধ বিএনপির নেতাকর্মীরা। তারা দলের এ বিপর্যয়ের জন্য চারজনকে চিহ্নিত করেছেন। তারা হলেন- বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসন খালেদা জিয়ার ব্যক্তিগত সহকারী অ্যাডভোকেট শিমুল বিশ্বাস, সাবেক জ্বালানি উপদেষ্টা মাহমুদুর রহমান, জাতীয়তাবাদী সমর্থক সাংবাদিক শফিক রেহমান ও সাবেক সচিব ব্যারিস্টার হায়দার আলী।

যুগান্তর রিপোর্ট: নবম সংসদ নির্বাচনে ৭২ আসনের মধ্যে ২২০টি ভোট কেন্দ্রে ভোটদানে বাধা, ব্যাপক কারচুপি ও অনিয়মের অভিযোগ করেছে বিএনপি। সেনা, পুলিশ, র‌্যাবসহ প্রশাসন একটি জোটের পক্ষে পক্ষপাতিত্বমূলক আচরণ করেছে বলেও অভিযোগ করেন তারা। দলটির অভিযোগ, বেশকিছু কেন্দ্র থেকে চার দলের এজেন্টদের ভয়ভীতি দেখিয়ে বের করে দিয়ে কেন্দ্র দখল করে জালভোট দিয়েছে।

Presiding officers at these centres expressed their helplessness to help these people in the absence of any alternative arrangement.

The prices of the essentials in the kitchen market were upped yesterday as communication system remained disrupted due to election. Customers had to pay double price to buy vegetables from the retailers as election fever gripped the nation.

Vendors sold potato at Tk 20 per Kg, bean Tk 40 per Kg, broccoli at Tk 20 per piece, carrot at Tk 32 per Kg, aubergine at Tk 20 per Kg and chilli at Tk 40 per Kg.
