Bangabandhu murder case verdict at 11am Thursday

The Supreme Court will deliver the judgment in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman assassination case at 11:00am on Thursday. The five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Md Tafazzul Islam will deliver the final verdict at the court No-1 of the apex court. The bench earlier held hearing on the case at court No-2. The court concluded hearings on November 12 and set the pronouncement of the verdict for November 19.

Bangladeshi twins stable after separation surgery

Nov 18- Bangladeshi twins Trishna and Krishna were in serious but stable condition on Wednesday after Australian doctors separated their conjoined heads in a major operation. The two-year-olds were under close monitoring as they recover in an induced coma and on ventilators after the 32-hour operation aimed at giving them healthy lives apart.

Moon sighted, Eid-ul-Azha on Nov 28

The holy Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on November 28 as the moon of Zilhajj month of Hijri 1430 was sighted in the country today. The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation here.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stated unequivocally that she wants a fair judgment in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman murder case to be delivered today by the Supreme Court. “I just want justice. I don't want to say anything more about it now,” she said while addressing a reception accorded in her honour by the Italy chapter of ruling Awami League at Oriental Hall at Piazza Ri Di of the Italian capital Rome Tuesday night. Hasina is scheduled to return to Dhaka at about 9:00am today ahead of the apex court judgment on Bangabandhu killing.

Bangladesh wants $10b to fight climate change

Bangladesh said Tuesday it would need 10 billion dollars from rich countries in the next four years to offset the effects of climate change -- double its original estimate. The government had previously said it would seek five billion dollars at next month's climate summit in Copenhagen to help it adapt to increased flooding, cyclones and droughts.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR), handicapped by shortage of manpower, has decided to engage university students to find out the holders of taxpayer's identification number (TIN) missing the November 12 tax returns filing deadline. The board said nearly 1.5 million TIN holders out of 2.2 million did not file tax return by the specified time.
