The Dhaka Metropolitan Police chief said on Tuesday that he would personally do all in his power to prevent criminals from securing nominations for the upcoming city corporation elections as allegations of crime and corruption have long been rife against elected DCC councillors.
Police have prepared a list of 18 top listed criminals residing mainly in the neighbouring India in a move to have them deported in line with the extradition treaty signed by the two countries. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque told this correspondent, "We have prepared a list of 18 criminals, who are now residing abroad on the basis of intelligence information."
The police have no statistics on the illegal intruders, including the Indian militants and criminals, who are now residing in the country. The Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) are mainly responsible for the drastic traffic congestion in Dhaka Metropolis, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque claimed today.
