Govt to put ‘psychological pressure’ on traders to stabilise essential price

The government has decided to put ‘psychological pressure’ on unscrupulous businessmen and traders by ‘posing’ to import more through official channels for stabilising the price of essential commodities, official sources said. The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by HT Imam, adviser to the prime minister on establishment ministry and administrative affairs, and attended, among other officials, by 13 secretaries at the PM’s office on Monday.

JS panel asks govt to take action against profiteers

A parliamentary committee on Sunday asked the government to take tough against a number of ‘big players’ who manipulate the market prices of essential commodities to make excessive profits. ‘Those who were brought to book are not the main culprits. There are some big players who manipulate the market prices,’ said MA Latif, a member of the parliamentary standing committee on commerce ministry, after a meeting of the committee.

Govt’s essential goods import plan fails

The government’s plan to import essential commodities failed as it could not communicate with foreign governments in time and keep watch on the price fluctuation on the international market, commerce ministry officials said. The government earlier planned to import six essential goods to prevent the rerun of its failure in meeting the demand in time of crisis.
