A meeting attended by ministers, garment factory owners, workers and BGMEA leaders on Sunday decided to introduce trade union in the garment sector to deal with problems of the apparel industry.
Commerce Minister Faruk Khan today said the government is likely to announce a stimulus package for the garment sector this month. The minister said this while talking to reporters after inaugurating Centre of Export and Product Development (CEPD) at the BGMEA Institute of Fashion and Technology (BIFT) at Uttara this morning.
Commerce Minister Muhammad Faruq Khan said that the government is pledge-bound to ensure proper working atmosphere in garment sector where both business and morality would get priority. The government is making relentless efforts to maintain complete working atmosphere in all garment factories in the country, he said.
Unabated extortions in the garment sector, the source of the country’s main foreign exchange earning, have made it difficult for entrepreneurs to operate their factories smoothly and peacefully, the industry sources alleged.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said yesterday that there were planned move to ruin the country's garment sector by creating unrest in the industry and suspected "a third evil force" behind the recent vandalism and arson.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith today said in Parliament the government too worried about the unrest in garment sector and the prime minister has directed all concerned to take necessary steps to control the prevailing situation.
