BNP Chairperson and the Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia on Friday criticised the government for not including the RMG sector in the stimulus package designed to tackle the impacts of global economic recession.
Export data shows that manpower, the second major foreign currency earning source, was badly hit by the global economic recession. A total of 30,812 people went abroad during the just concluded month September, 2009 which is almost half of corresponding month of previous year. In September 2008 around 53,000 people were sent abroad to earn money. The same dull export scenario was observed during the last 9 months of present calendar year.
Bangladesh has sought $ 500 million in additional assistance from the Asian Development Bank to create jobs against the backdrop of global economic recession.
