NBR set to net TIN holders defaulting on tax payment

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken a move to locate 1.2 million tax payers who remain unidentified for years despite having the taxpayers' identification number (TIN), said its chairman Thursday.

Babar sued for Tk 2.65cr tax dodge

The National Board of Revenue on Sunday filed a case against detained former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar for dodging Tk 2.65 crore income tax from 1999-2000 to 2008-09 fiscal years as director of Master Electronics Industry Limited. Syed Zakir Hossain, deputy tax commissioner of the NBR, filed the case with the Senior Special Judge’s Court, Dhaka. Judge ANM Bashir Ullah of is likely to hold hearing on the case at 2:30pm.

NBR to scrutinise suspicious tax returns

The National Board of Revenue has decided to sue the individuals and companies who have concealed information or made false declarations of taxable income and assets in their tax returns under the self-assessment method this fiscal year. Sources in the NBR said that it has asked the officials concerned to identify the individuals and companies whose tax returns are open to the suspicion of containing distorted information to evade taxes.

MPs’ assets statements under EC scanner

As the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has refused to investigate the authenticity of the asset statements of some of the MPs, the Election Commission (EC) itself will do the job now and go for legal action against the lawmakers if they are found to have submitted false statements to the EC.

Online tax payment from Jan

The People will be able to pay taxes online from January next year with the introduction of automated payment system in the National Board of Revenue (NBR). At the same time, companies and businessmen will have the opportunity of getting listed online for tax identification number (TIN), official sources said.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR), handicapped by shortage of manpower, has decided to engage university students to find out the holders of taxpayer's identification number (TIN) missing the November 12 tax returns filing deadline. The board said nearly 1.5 million TIN holders out of 2.2 million did not file tax return by the specified time.

NBR starts online registration of business by January

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is going to introduce online registration service for business firms within next January, besides making sure unitary registration number for income tax, VAT, customs and registrar of joint stock companies.

Tax returns deadline stretched to Nov 12

The deadline for filing individual income tax return has been extended, for a second time, to Nov 12, setting to rest speculations on Sunday. The National Board of Revenue in a circular confirmed the extension. The NBR extended the deadline by one month on Sep 29. As the Oct 31 deadline falls on a weekend day, Saturday, returns were to be received until 8pm on Sunday.

EC wants to know 14 MPs' tax status

The Election Commission will ask the National Board of Revenue to see if the 14 lawmakers who did not include tax records in their candidacy applications had earnings subject to tax.

Jalil sued for tax evasion

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) today filed a case against Abdul Jalil, a veteran leader of the ruling Awami League, on charge of evading income tax. Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court fixed 2:30pm for hearing the case.
