The Cabinet on Monday approved the raising of the salaries of the president, prime minister, speaker of the Parliament, chief justice, ministers, Supreme Court judges and lawmakers, by up to 83 per because of ‘the changed economic situation’.
The government is set to increase the salaries and privileges of the president, premier and ministers up to 83 percent in conformity with the recent pay hike of public servants.
Several hundred workers of Tongi's Nippon Garments Ltd staged protests in front of BGMEA Bhaban on Tuesday demanding disbursement of outstanding salaries and reopening of the factory.

Traffic movement on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway was suspended for nearly four hours today as garment workers put up barricade on the road demanding their salaries in arrear and bonuses ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. Police charged batons on the demonstration, leaving 50 workers injured, witnesses said.
