The monthly pay order (MPO) facility would be provided to the non-government educational institutions on the basis of performance index not on political consideration, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday. "A bad practice of giving political consideration has been developed under this process…but we will maintain transparency in bringing the institutions under the MPO," he told the journalists at a press conference of the ministry.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born on 17 March 1920 to Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and Shahara Khatun in village Tungipara under the then Gopalganj subdivision. Affectionately called Khoka by his parents, he began his school education at Gimadanga Primary School. He then moved on to Gopalganj Public School before being transferred to a missionary school. However, in 1934, he had a break of studies, which lasted four years, owing to an operation on one of his eyes.

বাংলাদেশ কি আদৌ কোনদিন অনুন্নত দেশের কালিমা হতে বেরিয়ে আসতে পারবে? আমাদের শাষন ব্যবস্থার কোন অংশ হতেই বিষয়টি নিয়ে উচ্চবাচ্য করা হয়না, অবস্থাদৃষ্টে মনে হচ্ছে হাতের কাছে যা আছে তা নিয়েই আমাদের এগুতে হবে। দেশ নিয়ে আমাদের চাওয়া-পাওয়া এবং প্রত্যাশার সীমানা এতটা সংকুচিত এবং সীমাবদ্ব যে, এই গন্ডির বাইরে যাওয়ার ইচ্ছা, আকাঙ্খা এবং স্বপ্ন সবগুলো যেন সাতসমুদ্র তের নদী পারের কোন দিবাস্বপ্ন, এবং অনেকের কাছে তা অপরাধের শামিল।
