Burmese Rice Still Coming to Bangladesh

Dhaka: Bangladesh authorities are still importing rice from Burma on large scale daily through the Teknaf border point to fulfill their country's demand for the product, said a report. Last week, 2,604 metric tons of rice were imported from Burma to Bangladesh on board seven ships and 23 cargo boats, according to the report.

The country's processed spices market is heating up as big business houses battle to win shares in the booming market, which is growing by around 15 percent a year.

Oil prices hover near 110 dollars

Oil prices were near fresh record levels of above 110 dollars in Asian trade Thursday, held up by the falling US currency, dealers said.

The continued rush of investors into commodities looking for a safe haven to hedge against inflation and the weakening dollar was also boosting crude prices, they said.

BB makes draft policy to appoint directors from bank depositors

Bangladesh Bank has set a draft guideline on appointment of directors from the depositors' side to ensure their representation for protecting their interests, according to sources.

The draft guideline will be published in newspapers soon to elicit public opinion before finalising it.
