3 IP telephony licenses for local firms by October

The country's telecom regulator yesterday said it decided to issue IP (internet protocol) telephony licences to three local internet service providers by October. In a meeting with Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), the telecom watchdog also said it already formulated a draft policy to introduce the internet-based telephony that uses the internet protocol's packet-switched connections to exchange voice.

SingTel launches mobile TV on phone

Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) , Southeast Asia’s giant operator of telecommunications, launched its mobile TV service on Tuesday.

The new service provides live TV channels with electronic programme guide information and video-on-demand, said SingTel in a statement.

Half of population to come under cell phone connectivity by 2011’

Number is increasing by 10 lakh ( 1 million ) a month.
