Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Tariq Ahmed Karim has indicated that Anup Chetia, general secretary of the banned ULFA, under detention in his country after serving a jail term, would be handed over to India soon. "It's happening. You will know when you get him," said Karim on being asked when the wanted ULFA leader would be handed over.

Royal Lifesaving Society Australia's world-first International Drowning Research Centre will open in Bangladesh next month. Throughout Asia, it is estimated a child drowns every 45 seconds during daylight hours. Last year 350,000 children drowned on the continent, compared to 50 in Australia.

killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were executed at Dhaka Central Jail shortly after Wednesday midnight. The execution process started just after 12am, Mohiuddin Ahmed (artillery) was first to be executed at 12:05am and then four others walked to the gallows one after another. Five ambulances brought in to the Dhaka Central Jail to collect the bodies after execution and take those to their respective villages. Tight security measures have been taken in and around Dhaka Central Jail over the executions.

Bangladesh and Myanmar on Saturday decided to demarcate the maritime boundary of the two countries accommodating both the principles of equidistance and equity. The decision came at a two-day high-level meeting that ended in the afternoon at a local hotel in Chittagong, reports our staff correspondent in the port city. The meeting also decided to hold another round of talks by next April in Myanmar.
