Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Saturday evening called upon the party men to remain alert about any subversive activities ahead of and after the Supreme Court verdict in the Bangabandhu murder case on November 19.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson and leader of the opposition in parliament Khaleda Zia yesterday said both Bangladesh and India should take such a decision jointly that would benefit both the countries. She stated this while visiting Indian foreign secretary Nirupama Rao called on her at her Gulshan party office in the city last evening.
BNP Secretary General Khondoker Delwar Hossain yesterday expressed his hope that the nation would accept the final judgment of the Supreme Court in handing down the real accused in the Bangabandhu murder case.
BNP is planning to bring massive changes to the party constitution bolstering the chairperson's authority, in light of its experience during the immediate past emergency regime when it almost split. The amendment proposals also include one for electing the secretary general through the national council, and another for expansion of the central executive committee.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) joint secretary general Mirza Abbas yesterday urged the government not to hatch any conspiracy to spoil the party national council.
"If you (government) can't cooperate with us, it doesn't matter but please don't make any plot to ruin our national council scheduled to be held on December 8," he said while talking to the newsmen at the party central office at Naya Paltan in the city.

The government on Thursday decided to withdraw 293 more ‘politically-motivated cases’ mostly against members of the ruling Awami League. The decision came at the ninth meeting of the national review committee on withdrawal of politically-motivated cases at the home affairs ministry with state minister for law Quamrul Islam in the chair. The meeting did not recommend withdrawal of any such cases against leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance.
Detained former deputy minister Abdus Salam Pintu was shown arrested on Thursday in a case filed for blasting bombs at Chasara Awami League office in Narayanganj. The blasts that took place on June 16, 2001 left 20 people dead and scores including former AL lawmaker Shamim Osman injured.
