Remain alert during Bangabandhu verdict, Hasina tells AL men

BNP plans major changes in party constitution

BNP is planning to bring massive changes to the party constitution bolstering the chairperson's authority, in light of its experience during the immediate past emergency regime when it almost split. Don't try to foil council, Abbas to govt

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) joint secretary general Mirza Abbas yesterday urged the government not to hatch any conspiracy to spoil the party national council.
"If you (government) can't cooperate with us, it doesn't matter but please don't make any plot to ruin our national council scheduled to be held on December 8," he said while talking to the newsmen at the party central office at Naya Paltan in the city.

Govt to withdraw 293 more political cases mostly against AL men

The government on Thursday decided to withdraw 293 more ‘politically-motivated cases’ mostly against members of the ruling Awami League. The decision came at the ninth meeting of the national review committee on withdrawal of politically-motivated cases at the home affairs ministry with state minister for law Quamrul Islam in the chair. The meeting did not recommend withdrawal of any such cases against leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance.

Pintu shown held in N'ganj blast case

Detained former deputy minister Abdus Salam Pintu was shown arrested on Thursday in a case filed for blasting bombs at Chasara Awami League office in Narayanganj. The blasts that took place on June 16, 2001 left 20 people dead and scores including former AL lawmaker Shamim Osman injured.
