Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited is planning to introduce wireless system to check pilferage of telephone cable.
‘It is not possible to provide better service by using wires in this age of modern technology,’ post and telecommunications minister Razi Uddin Ahmed Razu told the news agency Saturday.
The minister said the present government was going to introduce new technologies in the telecommunications sector.
According to sources at the ministry, there are nearly 12.5 lakh cable-based telephone connections of the BTCL. So BTCL telecommunication service largely depends on ‘linesmen,’ who work at the field level.
Sometimes BTCL service is hampered when linesmen fail to repair and restore dead phone lines in time.
A BTCL official said the BTCL should go for wireless system to compete with the private fixed phone companies who are giving connections by using wireless system.
