Google Expands Business E-Mail Support With Sender Customization

New York, NY (AHN) - Google continues to offer solutions for small businesses as the search engine giant strives to build a larger marketshare for its office applications.

In the newest update to its Gmail service, users can use Google's free e-mail platform and send messages that appear to come from any other site.

The service is useful for small businesses running their own website, but who want the ease and reliability of Google's Gmail. By customizing accounts, company's can make e-mails look as if they came from their own domains.

Previously, when sending e-mail to recipients who used e-mail clients like Microsoft's Outlook, the message would arrive with a clunky note saying "From username@gmail.com On Behalf Of customaddress@mydomain.com."

"We heard your request for another option that wouldn't show the 'on behalf of' text loud and clear, and now there's a new option that does just that," Google announced on the company's official blog. "Instead of using Gmail's servers to send the message, we'll use the servers where your other email address lives. Since Gmail isn't the originating domain, we don't have to include "Sender" info in the header. No more 'on behalf of.'"

The move comes as Google continues to heat up its push to boot Microsoft's ubiquitous but expensive "Office" software, replacing it with the online Google Apps suite of programs.
