Bangladesh Postal Department has taken steps to introduce mobile money order service in the country's post offices for reaching money to the clients within an hour.
Sources with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications said, in the first phase, the mobile money order services would be introduced in 150 post offices in line with the government's commitment to build a digital Bangladesh. A summary in this regard has been sent to the ministry of finance for final approval, they said.
" In the first phase, mobile money order service will be introduced in 150 post offices and subsequently it will be extended to all the post offices of the country," Director General of Postal Department Mobashsher-Ur Rahman told BSS on Sunday.
He said the department has fixed commission charge of Taka 20 for sending Taka 100 to Taka 1000, Taka 30 for Taka 100 to Taka 2000, Taka 40 for Taka 2001 to Taka 3000, Taka 50 for Taka 3001 to Taka 4000 and Taka 60 for Taka 4001 to Taka 5000.
The director general said a server center is being set up at the postal department to manage the village mobile money order and preserve all sorts of data. Mobashsher said the mobile money order service would be introduced keeping in mind the government's programme of building a digital Bangladesh and necessary manpower would also be appointed.
As per the existing money order system, it needs 7-10 days and even more to reach money to the clients of remote areas. But, the private courier service is illegally providing mobile service and transferring money in exchange of commission, he said.
