Harnessing the Latent Power of e-Mela Forum

Having being with this forum for 4+ years I have seen a lot of vocal participants irrespective of their political alignment. Since Bengali nation and society grew up on politics instead of economics, raucous political discussions have been the centerpiece of this forum.

Experience in Bangladesh Consulate

Observing samples from the thousands of Bangladeshis in New York City told me that they were not giving a hoot of what's going on in BD due to their uncertain economic future in NYC.

A fiasco in the making

Bangladesh Bank has instructed all BD banks to have their clients produce their passports or voter ID numbers so that their accounts with the banks can remain active. Otherwise, all the banks have been instructed to confiscate the accounts including the deposits.

This latest move is in the name of preventing outside money to finance the militancy movements.

Rise of militancy in Bangladesh and containment

Everybody agrees that militancy in Bangladesh is threatening the country towards becoming a trouble state if not a failed state.

I invite forum participants who cherish constructive debate, to share their views about the root cause of this rising militancy and what actions will be appropriate in Bangladesh context to contain this militancy.
